BOATHOUSES

REPAIRS AND RECONSTRUCTION

We specialize in boathouse re-construction and often work our winter schedule around rebuilding many of the older “grandfathered” structures around New Hampshire.

Usually, these older structures need new cribbing for a proper foundation.  Our unique Towtem® attachment for our excavator is the perfect clamshell bucket for crib reconstruction.  Once the cribbing is secure, we frame the deck in a heavy duty manner, especially under the boathouse walls, and then work our way up.

Boathouses over the water are always suseptable to movement, so we make the structure act as one so if it does move, and it will, it will move together as a single unit.  We can complete the project or work with your builder, architect, handyman or contractor to get the job done right!

While you cannot build structures such as these under today’s regulatory environment, “grandfathered” structrures can be maintained, rebuilt, and to some extent, modified to accept current sized boats, new boatlifts, and other considerations…Contact us to discuss your many options…

Often, changes are desired to make an older boathouse fit more modern (wider) boats.  In the example below, we reconstructed the boathouse structure exactly as it previously existed, but removed one interior dock walkway to make for a 2 ft wider boatslip inside.  To access the slip, the large sliding door opens to allow access directly into the boat.  Also, in this case, we added a dock off the end (by giving up dockage elsewhere on the property) and our client opted for a crank-up style dock.  Obviously, these changes are site specific, and must meet NH DES Wetlands Regulations, so contact us to look over your individual circumstances so we can develop a game plan to meet your needs…

Often, we coordinate our schedule to allow “freezing-in” one of our barges and completing these projects during the winter months.  The water levels are at their lowest, and the disruption to the waterfront is minimized during the boating season.  In this example, we mobilized a barge before “ice-in” and worked over the winter to rebuild the crib structure.

 NEW BOATHOUSES

Even though they are typically difficult to permit, it may be possible to construct a new boathouse if it is “dug-in” to your property.  All portions of the structure must be entirely within your property (nothing can extend over the lake).  These are very site specific projects and we suggest scheduling a site visit should you be interested in this type of structure…
